PDF Preview Handler Not Showing In File Explorer

If the File Explorer Preview Handler for PDFs is not showing the Foxit PDF Preview even though Foxit is set as the default PDF Previewer, please follow the steps below.

PDF Preview is displayed as thumbnail size in preview pane of Windows Explorer

Problem

PDF icons are not shown as thumbnails in File Explorer?

Check if every setting is in place. Go to the following place "C:\Program Files (x86)\Foxit Software\Foxit PDF Reader\Shell Extensions" or "C:\Program Files (x86)\Foxit Software\Foxit PDF Editor\Shell Extensions" to check if the required DLL and EXE shown below are installed.

PDF preview shows directory index or File not found

When you preview PDF files in File Explorer or Microsoft Outlook on your Windows 10 or Windows 11 computer, the preview pane may show the directory index of the current folder instead of previewing the PDF file’s contents.

PDF previews are shown as icons instead of thumbnails in Windows Explorer

This is a known bug particular to version 8.0.2 that will be addressed in the next release.
